Daddy longegs flies

• Use a floating fly line and tapered leader 
• Cast out and let the flies sit on the surface for 10–15 seconds 
• Try flicking your rod tip up to make the fly duck under the surface 
• If a trout swirls but doesn't take, lift your rod tip high to pull the fly underwater 
• Fish in wooded sections of rivers on windy days 
• Use a Popper Hopper or Booby Hopper on the top dropper 
• Use two flies, with the largest on the point  

When to use Daddy long legs flies 

• When crane flies are abundant in late summer and autumn
• When few fish are rising and little hatching
• On windy days when fish are opportunistic feeders

Matching the fly to the hatch 

• Match the size and colour of the fly to the crane flies you see
• Use a bead head daddy with a slow retrieve
